Shipping container grades explained

Grade describes condition. We sell four grades: New (One-Trip), IICL, Cargo Worthy and As-Is. Containers are sold by size and grade, so one of that grade is assigned from available stock.

What about wind and water-tight (WWT)?

WWT describes a used container that keeps out rain and wind. We do not sell it as a separate grade: those units are sold in our As-Is grade, where condition varies. If staying sealed matters, choose New, IICL or Cargo Worthy. More on WWT.

Common container types

  • Standard and High Cube: a High Cube is a foot taller than a standard container, 9'6" high instead of 8'6". 20ft and 40ft sizes.
  • Double Door: doors at both ends, for easy access from either end.
  • Open Side and Full Open Side: side doors for forklift or wide access. A full open side opens along the side of the container.
  • Open Top: a removable roof cover, for top loading by crane.
  • Flat Rack: a strong deck and end walls with no roof or side walls, for oversized cargo. Flat racks.
  • Refrigerated (reefer): insulated, with a refrigeration unit, sold from Houston only. Reefers.
  • Insulated, non-working: a refrigerated container whose machinery does not run, used as insulated dry storage.

Duocon containers

A Duocon is an innovation of the dual container concept, with a rotary push function, which can use two combined containers with different spreads. It provides convenient storage when the other is not in use. Containers are used in international trade for ocean and multimodal transport.
